Don't be an Online Victim - Whittman Hart / FDIC

Don't be an Online VicitmWhittman Hart created a ten-minute Flash animation for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to help advise consumers on how to avoid identity theft and electronic scams. I worked as the project lead.

The presentation had to be fully compliant with accessibility standards, and included support for close-captioning, text-to-speech, and live audio. It also had to be created in such a way as to allow a variety of delivery options. We created custom player applications for Windows PCs and Macs, and we also created a streamlined version of the presentation for delivery online from the FDIC website. You can view the presentation online here

We had to create a surprising amount of content for this presentation, because the FDIC insisted that we not show any copyrighted content; screen shots of actual software; or photographs of actual products, (excepting no-name PCs). This meant that we had to fake up software screens, content, websites and even product boxes!

The Digital Community – Estco Medical / GE Healthcare

The Digital CommunityThis 10 minute video was created for GE Healthcare as a follow-up to the award-winning Digital Hospital vision piece. The Digital Community explores a scenario where software and tools created by GE Healthcare enable the seamless interaction of a community of healthcare providers, hospitals, and physicians in the case of the diagnosis and treatment of a man with colon cancer.

GE Healthcare has their own video production team and casting contacts at their training facility in Milwaukee, IL, so they were able to cast the production and provide the video crew and equipment. I had worked with them before on the Digital Hospital vision piece and enjoyed having the opportunity to work with them again.

We were able to accelerate the shooting schedule by having me work with one unit while my partner, Tim Conlon lead the other unit.

We provided the script, storyboard, digital animation, compositing and editing, and created a custom viewer application for distribution on Windows PCs. We also produced a DVD disc and low resolution video for streaming via the Internet.

Subway Express Online Store – WhittmanHart / Subway Inc.

Subway ExpressWhittman Hart was engaged by a third party,( Protech Kiosks ), to create an online ordering system for Subway Restaurants Inc. on a speculative basis.

The application used Flash, (ActionScript 2) for the front end of the consumer facing application and the Flex 2 (ActionScript 3) beta for the administration console front end. The back end of the application was built using C#.Net and MS-SQL. Whittman Hart provided the design and development for the entire application.

I was the lead for development of the front end applications in Flash and Flex. The UI design team at Whittman Hart came up with a very clean and innovative design for the consumer-facing application that leveraged custom-built accordian components with scrolling elements inside them. The application was designed to lead the consumer through the ordering process in much the same way as they would experience it in a bricks-and-mortar store.

The deal with Subway didn't go through, so the application never progressed beyond the beta build. Subway continues to use the same online order system they had in place at the time we created this application.

Information-Based Medicine: A New Era in Patient Care
Estco Medical / IBM Life Sciences and Healthcare

IBM Vision for Information-Based MedicineWe created a 25 minute presentation broken into 5 interlocking modules for delivery on CD-ROM for Windows PCs. The installer program allows users to tailor their experience and select only the modules they wish to see.

The presentation is a vision piece consisting of vignettes demonstrating the advantage of using IBM's middleware offerings to improve communications, diagnosis, research, and patient care.

In addition to working on the animations and presentation product, I was responsible for casting and the principal photography. IBM opted to purchase my photographs for use throughout their healthcare website.
